Dangerous California wildfire forces freeway closure, evacuation warnings

Add The California Post on Google A wildfire broke near the California-Nevada border Wednesday morning, triggering evacuation warnings and a freeway closure.

The Floriston Fire, which started nine miles northeast of Truckee, Calif., around 10 a.m., quickly grew to 20 acres, according to CalFire.

The blaze forced the westbound closure of I-80 at the Nevada state line with no estimated time of reopening.

“The fire is estimated at 20 acres with a dangerous rate of spread and is threatening Interstate 80, the Truckee watershed, and nearby natural resources,” according to CalFire.

An evacuation warning was issued for area NCO-E379.
