Add Page Six on Google Lena Dunham and her husband, Luis Felber, have welcomed a child via a surrogate.
The couple, who have been married since September 2021, are now the proud parents of a baby girl, the actress revealed in a Wednesday op-ed in Vogue.We hear the couple are currently in the States and will soon move to London, where Felber is from.
Dunham has been open about medical issues with her reproductive system. In 2017, at the age of 31, she had a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis, a painful condition where tissue grows outside the uterus.
In 2018, she had her left ovary which she said was “encased in scar tissue and fibrosis, attached to my bowel and pressing on nerves that made it kinda hard to walk/pee/vamp,” Dunham wrote in an essay. “Over the last month it got worse and worse until I was simply a burrito shaped like a human.”
Last summer, she told The Times that she and Farber were in the process of “expanding” their family.
Dunham also told the outlet that her hysterectomy “was a grief but it was also a relief.”
“I thought I would have the opportunity to experience my fertility and my cycle waning and it never was,” she said, adding, “Instead it was a very quick, sharp cut-off…I will say we’re in the process of expanding our family in new ways. I want to safely meet our children and then figure out how to talk about it.”
In April, Dunham talked about how she grieved the possibility of not ever getting to be a mom after her hysterectomy.
“In the moment, my pain was so overriding that I put those other thoughts aside, and it was only in the aftermath of the surgery that I started to feel the weight of what had happened,” she said on “Today with Jenna and Sheinelle.”
She added, “Some people don’t dream about being mothers, but I had, and it was a big part of my identity that I was going to do it someday in that way.”However, Dunham noted that since her surgery, she’s “met so many people who built their families in so many different ways,” which allowed her to “come to a place where I feel really excited” about having children her own way.
“Whatever way it happens, I will feel so grateful.”
