Shopping We tried out the best of the best comforters for superior sleep By Miska Salemann Updated March 9, 2026, 9:08 a.m. ET Michelle Moezam/New York Post Composite Do you toss and turn when dreaming of new bedding? Don’t worry — we’re here to comfort you with the best comforters based on top reviews, including our own.
When looking for bedding, one of the most important parts is the comforter, which adds a thick (or thinner) layer of cushion and warmth to your bed sheets.
With Sleep Week on the horizon, finding the perfect comforter for your heat preferences is imperative — do you sleep hot and need something breathable, or do you sleep cold and need a thick blanket of down filling to keep you warm at night?
The time to buy is right now, as we’re right in the rut of bed-rotting season. Through the end of Winter and early Spring, find some of the best sleep accessories and home goods on sale, from some of your favorite retailers like Sleep Number, Cozy Earth, and more.
If you’re really looking to upgrade your nighttime routine, don’t forget to check out our best mattresses roundup, as well as our best duvet covers roundup.
The Post Wanted team adores Cozy Earth for all things sleep — if you haven’t tried the brand’s gorgeous bamboo pajama sets, we recommend stopping everything you’re doing and ordering one now. It’s no surprise that Cozy Earth also supplies state-of-the-art comforters.
For a different fabrication, try the Cozy Earth customizable bamboo comforter, which can be made with either 100% mulberry silk or bamboo filling, and two different fill levels are available. These luxurious fabrics have a smoother feel than most cotton designs and are better for warmer sleepers, as they provide a temperature-regulating quality that keeps you from overheating and allows you to achieve longer, deeper sleep.
Cozy Earth comforter Victoria Giardinia New York Post Review: “I have the Cozy Earth Bamboo Viscose Comforter on my king-sized bed and it’s miraculous,” shared Commerce Reporter and Content Strategist, Victoria Giardinia. “It’s a splurge but, if you want hotel-like bedding, this is your best resort. I have mine stuffed inside the brand’s Bamboo Duvet and it’s the fluffiest, softest material I’ve ever experienced. Not gonna lie, I never want to leave my bed. As its name suggests, the brand is supremely cozy and doesn’t shy away from premium fabrics that are moisture-wicking and breathable. It holds up well in the wash, too, and doesn’t wrinkle. As a whole, it looks great, feels great, and allows you to feel a taste of luxury from your bedroom.”
Sizing: Twin, Queen/Full, King | Material: Bamboo or silk
Some people have personal preferences when it comes to keeping the room warmer and veer towards cooler blankets. Others live in temperate or humid climates where a light comforter is absolutely essential. Our Deputy Commerce Editor, Holly J. Coley prefers a lightweight option and firmly stands behind Quine’s Luxe Lightweight Goose Down.
Holly J. Coley New York Post Review: “Quince is honestly the reason I came to appreciate ‘good’ bedding. From the moment I took the European Linen Dream Quilt from its package, I knew it was quality. Everything, from its weight to the stitching, made me know this was superior to other comforters I had ordered before. It wasn’t flimsy in feel or look, and the flange detailing really elevates it from being just a basic comforter. It’s all seasonal, so it’s perfect for someone like me. I live in an apartment and don’t have room to store a different comforter for every season, plus this one is warm but breathable. It keeps me snuggly in the winter and comfortable during the summer when I’m sleeping with the AC blasting. I love its quilted texture — it actually reminds me of cotton balls.”
Sizing: Twin, Full/Queen, King/California King | Material: European Down
There are a few reasons we have placed the Brooklinen comforter at the top of this list. This comforter is made just for you — shoppers can select between three heat levels: light, all-season, and ultra-warm. For someone who prefers a lighter comforter (which is not all that typical), we truly appreciate having the flexibility to select what works best.
New York Post Review: “The design of this comforter is very impressive,” shared Commerce Reporter, Miska Salemann. “Baffle box construction ensures that the hypoallergenic downfill is evenly distributed, so there’s no constant need to re-fluff. That means more comfort and less fuss. I adore the 100% cotton sateen shell — it’s soft, breathable, and in my experience, extremely friendly with sensitive skin. This type of material also washes very easily. My only negative remark is the sizing, which seems to be slightly off when paired with certain duvet covers. Some reviewers also seem to agree that this comforter is more on the narrow side, so depending on your duvet, it may not always stay in place.”
Sizing: Twin — California King | Material: Down, Cotton and Sateen Shell
Meet the comforter that could help prevent some divorces. These intelligently engineered half comforters easily zip together to allow you and your sleep partner to enjoy your own tailored heat levels and fill preference at the same time (that means no more fighting over the blanket).
Sleep Number comforter Miska Salemann New York Post Review: “I was very excited to try this comforter, mostly because I wanted to find out whether I would really be able to tell if there was a difference between the two sides. Mine came in a light and medium warmth on each side — and I was exceptionally impressed with the fact that these heat levels (although close together) were still noticeably different. Assembly does take an additional step, but I thought it was quite straightforward. Simply zip the two sides together and throw them in a duvet. Another great touch? This comforter features corner loops that attach to the optional duvet cover and help prevent the comforter from shifting — one of my biggest pet peeves,” said Salemann.

Sweat less, sleep more. Talk about breathability — this comforter leaves you feeling clean and refreshed when you wake up. It probably has something to do with the material. Instead of cotton, Buffy used tencel eucalyptus lyocell which is said to absorb moisture quicker than other fabrics. Buffy is still offering a seasonal sale with deep discounts. Snatch this comforter and more on sale.
New York Post Review: “I was a skeptic at first but my illuminated skin confirmed that the breathability is there. Not to mention, Buffy is exceptionally sustainable,” shared Salemann. “The brand recycles roughly 50 plastic bottles per comforter and shreds them into marshmallowy goodness, to make your comforter extra soft but eco-friendly, too. Somehow still on the fence about this deliciously fluffy, Buffy comforter? Luckily, you can get the comforter for a free trial and pay later if you decide to keep it. If you’re unhappy for any reason you have a week to return the comforter for no cost at all.”
Sizing: Twin/TwinXL, Full/Queen, King/California King | Material: Tencel eucalyptus
Combining goose feathers and down, Macy’s Royal Luxe Comforter stands out as an affordable yet high-quality option (especially considering the extra silk pillow set Macy’s will throw in with purchase). Reviewers mention that the comforter has a lightweight yet cozy feel, which keeps you comfortable without overheating. It’s also proven pretty easy to wash and care for, according to our Social Media Manager Michelle Moezam.
Michelle Moezam New York Post Review: “I am obsessed with this Macy’s Royal Luxe comforter I bought back in 2023. It’s the ultimate ‘hotel-bed’ hack. It has that perfect medium weight that feels like a warm hug without making you overheat, thanks to the white goose feather and down fiber fill. Despite how plush it is, it’s surprisingly easy to wash and maintain. It’s stayed just as fluffy as the day I got it, making my bed the hardest place for my dog to leave every morning!”
Sizing: Twin, Full/Queen, King/California King | Material: Goose Down
This comforter from Bedsure has over 15,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews on Amazon, and one of our writers swears it’s the best she’s ever tried. Of course, one of the top-selling points is the fact that it comes in an array of lovely patterned designs, which instantly brighten up a space. Not to mention, you won’t need to add a duvet cover! This comforter stands alone.
Bedsure Comforter Angela Tricarico New York Post Review: “Not only is it available in a ton of fun bright colors and reversible (one side features a colored background with a white floral print while the other is white accented with colored flowers) to go with every room and fit every season, but it’s soft and cozy, too,” noted Commerce Reporter, Angela Tricarico. “As someone who doesn’t like to overheat at night, it’s perfect for the winter, too. It offers the perfect amount of warmth paired with my other sheets, but it’s still breathable enough to prevent overheating.”
Sizing: Twin — King | Material: Polyester
If you’re prepared to dish out a few hundred dollars on a top-quality comforter, we suggest you go with the Down Duvet Insert from Parachute. This comforter is made with European white down and has a fill power of 750 (the highest we have reviewed). Soft sateen is sewn around the down to provide a crisp, glossy exterior. The brand also purchases its own materials from RDS-certified suppliers, meaning that it is sourced from humanely treated ducks and geese.
New York Post Review: “Curious what this super-high-count down filling feels like? For me, it’s like floating on top of a cloud. In fact, I barely could feel my mattress while wrapped up in this comforter. The only problem is I’ll never want to get up in the morning. It’s an all-encompassing, feathery material that never gets old. The bottom line on this 750-fill-power duvet insert: it’s worth the splurge,” explained Salemann.

Sourced from alpaca wool carefully shorn from free-range alpacas reared in the highlands of Peru, this lightweight yet lofty comforter offers many features conducive to a healthier sleep environment. Described as “heavenly” by reviewers, the Duvet Insert is one of the highest-quality wool comforters we’ve seen on the internet — and a great choice for those seeking a more ethical down comforter.
The naturally thermoregulating material sets this style apart from many other luxury bedding pieces. Bacteria-suppressing keratin makes for a fresher environment year-round and minimal levels of lanolin make it a more hypoallergenic choice. Plus, microscopic air pockets allow exceptional warmth while ensuring breathability — so you’re getting the best of both worlds.
Miska Salemann New York Post Review: “I’ve read glowing reviews about luxuriously lightweight Alpaca down comforters, and found myself curious enough to try one out myself. Goose down can be a bit heavier, and I don’t like to feel weighed down when I’m sleeping (I toss and turn). Not to mention, the goose-down harvesting process is enough to give me nightmares. Naturepedic’s alpaca wool is “conscientiously shorn from free-range alpacas reared in the highlands of Peru with the utmost care for the animal’s well-being,” which makes me feel much better sleeping atop it. Plus, the material still touts all the great insulating properties of an ordinary down comforter, but it’s also extremely breathable and light as a cloud. The material is soft too – cashmere-comparable, in my opinion. While this comforter adds plenty of warmth and is quite attractive, it may not be at the top of the list for those seeking a budget-friendly find. At $499.99, it’s a pricey investment piece, but one that could dramatically improve your sleep.”
Sizing: Full/Queen | Material: 500 GSM Alpaca Wool
Bedsure’s comforters do not disappoint. While they may not have that expensive goose-down feeling, they do feel great on the wallet — and they’re designed with a unique brushing technique that makes the shell of the comforter quite soft and attractive. It’s available in so many color options and styles, that you don’t even need a duvet cover.
New York Post Review: “The premium microfiber filling is not quite as weightless as the true down fillings, but it’s still exceptionally cozy and I hardly experienced any clumping when I put this comforter in a sheet. Everything fell flat with a few shakes and stayed that way all night long,” added Salemann. “For someone looking for an unfussy, straightforward, and all-around reliable comforter, we’d go with Bedsure in a heartbeat. You’ll save hundreds and still achieve restful sleep.”
