Add The California Post on Google While most of the NFL was getting set to kick off their season on Sunday, the Rams, who had played three days earlier, received big news that will affect them for at least the next four weeks.
In an offseason filled with splashes, the Rams’ biggest, Myles Garrett, will at least miss the team’s next four games as he is set to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, landing him on injured reserve.
On Monday morning, head coach Sean McVay met with reporters and said that the team thought Garrett’s knee injury, which forced him to miss a large portion of training camp, was “something that he would be able to work through.”
“Obviously, being out there and playing in a real game, you learn like, ‘Hey, maybe that’s not the case.’ So let’s change course with that,” McVay said.
McVay went on to say that he doesn’t have an estimated timeline for when he could return, though the timeline to return from this type of procedure usually takes six to eight weeks.
“I think it’s all contingent upon how things go today. You feel good about it,” McVay said. “But I think it’d be unfair to him, or really just without having the totality of all the information, to put any sort of timeline on it. We know he’ll be available in four weeks potentially, so we’ll just take that a day at a time.”
Garrett appeared in 61.5% of defensive plays for the Rams and logged 40 snaps, with zero sacks and zero tackles in the team’s 27-7 Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, making it a disappointing performance in one of the most highly anticipated debuts with a new team to start the new season.
Aside from not having an update on when the reigning Defensive Player of the Year will return, McVay also had an update on three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who is set to make his return to the football field after spending the last two seasons retired.
After Donald was ruled inactive and didn’t travel with the team to Australia, McVay said that the team’s focus is on getting him “up to speed.”
