Add The New York Post on Google A glamorous influencer has died of a suspected suicide — just weeks after sharing a defiant 40th birthday vow to choose life despite a secret battle with depression and debilitating pain.
Mom of three Madalina Apostol, who split her time between Los Angeles and Mexico, died Sunday, her millionaire-businessman boyfriend Nick Radoi said, calling it “a great pain” and a “tragedy that is hard to put into words.”
Apostol died by suicide after secretly battling an autoimmune condition that caused her severe pain, as well as past struggles with depression that previously saw her seeking psychiatric treatment in her native Romania in the months before her death, her grieving partner said.
It explained the cryptic post she shared with her 38,000 followers on her 40th birthday early last month, quoting the most famous part of Prince Hamlet’s monologue from William Shakespeare’s play..
“I finally have the answer to the question that has followed me for so long: “To be or not to be?” she wrote.
“I choose to be, because the alternative was never my destiny,” she wrote with an optimism that seeminly did not last.
Apostol was a mom to a 10-year-old daughter and two adult sons, 22 and 19, who shared her glamorous lifestyle online.
She had become more private in the end, but the day before her death shared her final post, with pictures taken 10 years ago of her two sons going to school.
“Madalina was an extraordinary person, a loving mother, a good-hearted person and with a deep faith in God. She was loved, encouraged, supported and supported until the very last moment,” Radoi said.
“This is a cruel disease and only those who have ever had or are dealing with it can truly understand what it means,” he said of her physical and mental health battles.
“The disease came to take over her thoughts and her soul.”
