Add The New York Post on Google The first week of the NFL regular season continues with a matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions.
The Lions — led by quarterback Jared Goff — will make their season debut without standout running back David Montgomery, who was traded to the Houston Texans in March. In return, Detroit received offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Meanwhile, the Saints will be spearheaded by quarterback Tyler Shough. Spencer Rattler led the team for the first eight weeks of the 2025 season before Shough took over; he now remains the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart.
No. 2 running back Alvin Kamara is expected to play, as he returned to practice Wednesday following a knee injury.
