Add The New York Post on Google Former NASCAR driver Gary Myers, part of a four-generation racing family, has died, according to his family. He was 76.
Myers was the son of auto racing pioneer Billy Myers, the father of stock car drivers Burt and Jason Myers and the grandfather of Slate Myers, whose racing career began in 2024.
“Last night I lost my hero,” Burt Myers posted Friday on Facebook. “He fought so hard but was so tired. My daddy is in Heaven and can finally do the things he wanted to do the last several years.”

Gary Myers participated in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, NASCAR Grand National East Series and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour.
He made his debut in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in 1974 at the Yankee 400 and appeared in 47 races in the series.
“Last night we lost our patriarch,” a post read on Jason Myers’ Facebook page. “Gary was Jason’s best friend. He taught him and Burt everything they know and touched so many people along the way. To know him was to love him. Rest easy, legend. You will be with us always.”

“We lost one of our heroes — Gary Myers,” the tour posted on its X account. “Gary was a founding member of the SMART MODIFIED TOUR & its 1996 champion. He had 15 wins.
“Gary’s sons, Burt and Jason, as well as grandson, Slate, are winning racecar drivers, as well. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Myers family.”
