Add Page Six on Google Prince William apparently was never convinced his brother Harry’s return to the UK with wife Meghan Markle would be a peaceful move. According to a source that spoke to Us, “There was cautious optimism that perhaps they would arrive in silent dignity and not stir up drama, but William was much less optimistic than the king and was proven right because right now he’s having an ‘I told you so’ moment.”
The insider added that William, 44, has not spoken to Harry, 41, and “hasn’t gotten over all the stress” that Harry and Markle caused amid health concerns with William’s wife, Kate Middleton, who announced her cancer diagnosis in 2024.
“[Kate] finally reached remission, only for them to come back to the UK and create more stress for everyone,” the source noted.
However, “William and Kate don’t have to do anything and say anything,” the source added. “History has proven time and again Meghan and Harry will dig their own grave. And this takes them further away from reconciliation.”
Harry and Meghan controversially quit their duties with the royal family in 2020 for a life in Montecito, California with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

However, they made the shocking decision last month to return to the UK, spurred by a desire to be closer to King Charles — who is in ongoing treatment for cancer — and to ensure their children build relationships with family, sources told Page Six.Last week, Charles, 77, delivered a response to Harry and Markle’s decision, issuing confirmation the Sussexes will not be working royals carrying out official engagements now that they’re back in England, according to a letter sent on behalf of Charles by the family’s lord chamberlain, per the BBC.
The letter said the couple cannot use their titles of His and Her Royal Highness and are “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests,” a top palace official told the BBC.
The letter additionally ruled out the Sussexes taking a “half-in and half-out” status, meaning they can’t be working royals while continuing to pursue their independent business endeavors.The note was allegedly sent to the media without consulting the couple. Harry and Markle, 45, have not yet publicly responded to Charles’ letter, but sources claim the Sussexes are “frustrated” with how the monarch worded the “deliberate” note.
