Add The New York Post on Google James Talarico, the Democratic Senate candidate in Texas, is rushing to escape his on-the-record gender insanity — but it’s clearly just a dodge, part of lefty candidates’ nationwide playbook to claim to embrace “normalcy.”
Talarico has unambiguously claimed there are six genders and that God is nonbinary; as a state legislator he voted against bills to keep biological boys out of girls’ sportsand to end gender-reassignment treatments for minors.
Now he tells Fox News those six-gender comments “missed the mark”; he insists he supports a trans-athlete ban and a national ban on gender surgeries and hormones for kids.
Has he seen the light of reason and started to actually follow the science on the issue?
First, these “recantations” come with miles of wiggle room: He only opposes boys in the girl’s locker room “if it endangers safety or fairness.”
And he backs banning juvenile gender “medicine” for kids only as long as the bill contains nothing “harmful” — i.e., nothing that prompts upset trans extremist to condemn it on X.
Tellingly, Talarico in the same interview called for an “overhaul” of the Supreme Court to end its “corruption,” declaring himself “open to a discussion” of court-packing.
The only “corruption” on the high court is its occasional refusal to rule the way liberals want on immigration and election law, and their endless efforts to infringe on the power of the executive.
Similarly, he’s said of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “It’s time to tear down this secret police force”; he’ll surely hedge on that next — with another obvious escape hatch.
These dodges are of a piece with what Michigan voters get from terrorist-loving Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
El-Sayed for months hitched himself to brocaster Hasan Piker, who has openly said America deserved 9/11 and praised Hamas; then, as Piker recently drew heat after threatening Jews for supporting Israel, El-Sayed acted as though he’d never met the “Twitch streamer.”
He’s also deleted numerous old statements, including deeply anti-American remarks about July 4th celebrations and a proposal to scrap the Second Amendment, and used the same handwaving technique when confronted over them.
Fellow Dems and their media allies have helped in this effort — though one issue where El-Sayed has not changed his tune is, again, ICE: “There is no reforming, there is no retraining, there is only abolishing ICE,” he said in April.
This effort to paper over radicalism is neatly summed up in the “Woke 1 was craaazy” noise from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — a pretense of a pivot to the center without dropping those extreme positions.
It may well work this year: Repubicans face economic headwinds, uncertainty over the Iran war and fatigue with President Donald Trump — all as the party holding the White House stands at a historical disadvantage in midterms.
Those factors plus the artful dodging leave Senate races in Texas, North Carolina, Iowa and elsewhere all too close, with even radical El-Sayed in a statistical tie with Republican contender Mike Rogers.
But voters have seen this exact same story before, in the 2020 presidential race.
Joe Biden’s central message was that he’d return the country to normalcy after Trump; instead, he delivered unprecedented and radical change: an open border that saw millions enter the country; the embedding of gender radicalism and racist DEI in federal policy; humiliation in Afghanistan; a greenlight for Putin’s Ukraine war and dithering after the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel.
This time around, Democrats clearly, if implicitly, promise that they’ll use control of Congress to make all that radicalism permanent by packing the Supreme Court and other drastic constitutional surgery — that being the only way to deliver on the insane demands of their woke base.
All the dodging is meant to keep America from rejecting that madness this November.
