Boxer Fernando Vargas Jr. arrested following Universal Studios parking structure crash

Add The California Post on Google Fernando Vargas Jr. — a 17-1 boxer who fought on the Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez card last year — was arrested on Thursday night after he was allegedly involved in a car accident inside the Universal Studios Hollywood parking structure.

The California Highway Patrol said in a statement on Friday that when officers went to investigate the three-car wreck at the popular amusement park, they “contacted Vargas Jr. and noted signs of alcohol impairment.”

Getty Images for Netflix They then conducted a DUI investigation and later placed the pugilist in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Further details surrounding the incident were not made immediately available, though the CHP said it “will present the case to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office for review.”

Vargas Jr. is the 29-year-old son of two-time light middleweight world boxing champion Fernando Vargas. Fifteen of his 17 professional wins have come via knockout, but he lost his last big boxing match against Callum Walsh while on the undercard of the famed September 2025 Alvarez vs. Crawford tilt at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Vargas Jr. signed with BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing in April and won his debut fight with the org in July.
