Mega-rich Abu Dhabi royal tried to buy string of iconic LA hotspots including Chateau Marmont

A hospitality loving sheikh who bought LA’s h.wood Group also tried to buy the historic Chateau Marmont as well as pasta mecca Funke, sources tell Page Six Hollywood.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this week that an Abu Dhabi royal, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan — who is now a majority owner in John Terzian and Brian Toll’s h.wood Group — made an offer in the hundreds of millions to snap up the storied Sunset Tower hotel and Hollywood’s most exclusive members club, San Vicente Bungalows.

But the properties’ owner Jeff Klein turned down the alleged lucrative offer, THR reported. The chic San Vicente Bungalows, which has an A-list clientele and haute pedigree, also has outposts in Santa Monica and Manhattan. (THR reported the offer was $700 million, but sources say the number was a bit lower.)

Sources also exclusively tell Page Six that the h.wood Group — which includes trendy spots such as Delilah, the Bird Streets Club and The Nice Guy — further made offers on Andre Balazs‘ historic Chateau Marmont and chef Evan Funke‘s Beverly Hills power spot, Funke.

The Abu Dhabi hospitality company that bought h.wood Group, called DIAFA, acquired a majority stake in British restaurateur Richard Caring’s hospitality empire in April, including Annabel’s, Sexy Fish, Scott’s and The Ivy.

Said an insider of DIAFA’s alleged LA plans via h.wood group: “They are super wealthy and buying up a lot of hospitality assets. They want to roll up all these hospitality products, and then they want to go public.”

Stay tuned on what properties could be next on the wish list of the wealthy Abu Dhabi investors.

We have reached out to reps for the Sunset Tower, Chateau Marmont, Funke and the h.wood Group.
