Add The New York Post on Google ABC News is shaking up the weekend lineup at “Good Morning America,” adding Rachel Scott and Rhiannon Ally as co-anchors and installing Leslie Lopez as the show’s weekend meteorologist.
Beginning Saturday, Scott, who is ABC News’ senior political correspondent, will join longtime weekend anchor Whit Johnson on Saturdays, the network said.
On Sundays, Ally will co-anchor alongside Gio Benitez, who has held a weekend anchor slot since 2023.
The overhaul also comes with a new format that ABC News said will give the weekend team more opportunities to appear on weekday broadcasts.
“We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays, plus our new format will allow this team to show up more on our weekday broadcasts, too,” “GMA” senior executive producer Simone Swink said.
Johnson, who has co-anchored “GMA” on weekends since 2018, will continue anchoring “World News Tonight” on Saturdays, a role he has held since 2021.
Scott, who joined ABC News as a production associate in 2016, will keep her role as senior political correspondent covering the White House and Capitol Hill from Washington while co-anchoring “GMA” Saturdays from New York.
She has covered the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, reported from Butler, Pa., following the 2024 assassination attempt on President Donald Trump and anchored ABC News’ live coverage on the day then-President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race.
Ally joined ABC News in 2021 and has appeared across the network’s programs and platforms, most recently as co-anchor of “World News Now” and “Good Morning America First Look.”
Her assignments have included breaking-news coverage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, the deaths of Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Francis and the conclave that elected Pope Leo.
Lopez, meanwhile, joined ABC News in April after a decade at KABC-TV in Los Angeles, where she served as morning meteorologist for the station’s early weekday newscasts.
Before joining the network, Lopez reported from the Eaton Fire for “World News Tonight with David Muir” and has also appeared as a host on “On the Red Carpet at the Oscars.”
Johnson, Scott, Benitez and Ally will also rotate as anchors of “ABC News Live Weekend,” which begins at 10 a.m. ET on weekend mornings on ABC News’ streaming channel carried on Disney+, Hulu and the ABC News app.
The weekend edition of “GMA” airs Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. ET on ABC.
