Add The California Post on Google Josh Jacobs reached a deal with prosecutors on Thursday to close out his battery case.
The Packers running back appeared in a Brown County, Wisc. courtroom wearing a grey suit and a light-colored shirt and tie and issued no contest pleas to one misdemeanor count of battery and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.
Jacobs read a statement after making the pleas, telling the court, “I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and I take full responsibility,” Schneidman reported.
Jacobs was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus costs, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky added.
Further conditions of Jacobs’ agreement with prosecutors also included the rusher’s promise to stay away from the alleged victim in the case, pay restitution and seek counseling, according to Demovsky.
“Josh Jacobs today agreed to enter a plea of guilty or no contest to one count of Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property and one count of Misdemeanor Battery in Brown County Circuit Court,” Jacobs’ attorneys said in a statement following the court proceedings.
“The State recommended and the Judge issued a fine of $1,000 plus costs as sentence for the Battery Count. Under the terms of the agreement, the Court will suspend the proceeding on the Criminal Damage to Property Count for 12 months, at which time it will be dismissed upon completion of the terms of the agreement.
“With this agreement, Josh has accepted responsibility for his conduct and resolved this matter. Today’s resolution is set against a career long history of Josh’s community work while in the NFL, which has centered on the circumstances of his early life.”
Jacobs was hit with the charges on Aug. 27 after prosecutors claimed he was involved in a violent dispute with his girlfriend on May 23 at his Wisconsin home.
A criminal complaint alleged Jacobs and the woman began quarreling after she accused him of “talking to other girls.” During their spat, Jacobs allegedly grabbed the woman and threw her to the ground, causing her an injury.
Part of the altercation was captured on surveillance video, according to the complaint.
Jacobs was initially arrested on May 26 over the allegations but prosecutors opted to not file charges at the time as they sought “additional evidence.”
Jacobs was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Aug. 30, barring him from practicing and playing for the Packers. It’s not yet clear how his plea deal on Thursday will effect that status.
Jacobs joined the Packers in 2024 after five seasons with the Raiders.
