Add The New York Post on Google Gap just launched a unique new bag concept, and we’ve got to admit — it’s pretty jean-ius.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the brand debuted GapBags, a creative collection of totes designed by Reed Krakoff, Executive Director of Accessories at Gap Inc.
The hero silhouette is the Five-Pocket Tote, inspired by Gap’s signature denim and five-pocket construction. You’ll recognize the five-pocket stitching, belt loops and gold-hardware from their iconic jeans. It almost looks as though it’s a jean Birkin (we’ve unofficially named it the “Jirkin” here at the Post).
The innovative purse can be worn on your elbow, shoulder or hand using the double handles. Personally, using it handheld is the most comfortable option.
You can also transform it into a crossbody by attaching the shoulder strap.
It comes in dark and medium washes across three sizes: small, standard and large.
Prices vary, but the most expensive style (currently sold out) is the Large Patchwork Denim Five Pocket Tote for $498.
Carrie Berk Still reminiscing over your 1990s logo sweatshirt? Another clever addition to GapBags is the Hoodie Tote.
The company’s plush pullover got a major makeover in the form of a roomy bag, made in a soft cotton-blend jersey fabric with water-resistant neoprene lining.
It’s available in light heather grey, bainbridge blue and true black, with three size variations available.
Beyond the denim and hoodie-inspired designs, GapBags also debuted the Canvas Favorite Tote in fun prints and the Crescent Bag, a soft denim crossbody.
Each accessory can be adorned with exclusive new charms, including a miniature version of the Five-Pocket Tote, the Patchwork Denim Heart Bag Charm and the Brannan Bear Denim Jacket Bag Charm.
From Sept. 11-13, between 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., GapBags is hosting a pop-up at Rockefeller Center’s Channel Gardens where guests can paint or personalize their totes with charms IRL. The activation features a massive, oversized Five-Pocket Tote installation, with denim-enclosed customization stations positioned behind it.
Carrie Berk Jordyn Woods, Ashtin Earle and more celebs were present at the star-studded launch event on Sept. 10.
The collection is selling out fast — and for good reason. We’re obsessed with Gap’s fresh take on jeans, so make sure to shop GapBags now while their creative new totes are still available.
