LSU grad Speaker Mike Johnson weighs in on SEC drama — suggests he could ‘visit’ conference bigs

Add The New York Post on Google DALLAS — House Speaker Mike Johnson is weighing in on the drama around his alma mater LSU and the SEC — suggesting he could pay a visit to the athletic conference bigs as they are set to debate kicking out the storied school.

“I thought about that,” Johnson told The Post on the sidelines of the Republican Conference in Texas Wednesday.

“I’d like to have a conversation. It is in the middle of litigation right now, so I don’t know what my ethical lines are there.”

LSU is under fire over new coach Lane Kiffin’s attempt to field players who signed contracts with NFL teams as undrafted rookies earlier this year.

“I would not mind being a mediator there,” Johnson added.

“I think cooler heads need to prevail. We need to let LSU be LSU and play our games.”

Johnson’s comments came a day before the spat between Louisiana State University and the Southeastern Conference was expected to come to a head, with a meeting scheduled for Thursday where conference leaders will potentially vote on revoking the school’s membership.

Johnson said that LSU had done the proper thing by taking the issue to court to see whether it was legal.
