Add The California Post on Google A massive multi-alarm fire in Beverly Hills tore through the roof of an apartment complex and forced a nearby school to temporary close Wednesday morning.
The heavy blaze erupted in the 200 block of South Rexford Drive around 10:30 am. The Beverly Hills Fire Department arrived on scene to find most of the building heavily engulfed in flames.
The blaze erupted around 10:30 a.m. The fire led to a partial roof collapse. The enraging fire caused severe structural damage to the building that led to a partial roof collapse while firefighters made aggressive efforts to contain the blaze.
Authorities have shut down South Rexford Drive between Charleville Boulevard and Gregory Way to accommodate heavy emergency equipment and support operations.
“As firefighters attacked the fire, the roof began collapsing, so firefighters retreated and are using area ladder trucks to battle the blaze. There are no injuries reported,” the City of Beverly Hills said in a statement.
Authorities said that firefighters had to shift to defensive strategy, using aerial ladder trucks to dump high-volume water streams onto the blaze from above.
People in residential buildings directly adjacent to the blaze were swiftly evacuated, while students and staff at Beverly Vista Middle School across the street from the scene were placed under a precautionary shelter-in-place order.
