Add The New York Post on Google Aaron Rodgers shared some of the gossip going around the Steelers quarterback room.
As a guest on the “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward” podcast on Tuesday, the future Hall of Famer defended Drew Allar’s “racy” DM scandal that occurred while the rookie quarterback was in college at Penn State.“There is a DM thread out there about Drew. Oh yeah there is…” Rodgers said. “He definitely wanted me to come on here and say it’s not true and that’s made up. But, it’s out there. It’s a little racy. A little racy.”
“But he’s been in a committed relationship for a long time. He’s very happy and none of that was ever true,” he added.
“Thank you for clearing that up. Look at you being a great teammate,” Heyward said.
In 2025, screenshots circulated on social media of alleged direct messages between Allar and a woman, who he was trying to invite over. Fans quickly picked apart the quarterback for the messages while many others believe they were fabricated.
As the Steelers selected Allar out of the third round (76th overall) in this year’s draft, Rodgers knew he was familiar with the name.
“When I heard Drew Allar, first thing I thought was ‘Ah that DM.’ Cause I remember seeing that,” he said. “It went around the quarterback rooms because quarterback rooms are like that. ‘Hey, did you see this kid in college? These DMs?’ I was like ‘Oh s–t man.’
“The first thing I said to him was ‘Hey, did that DM thing ever get you in trouble?”‘ Rodgers said.
“Especially when he was like ‘Yeah, I’ve been with my girlfriend for a long time.’ I was like ‘You got through that DM scandal then, huh?'”
Allar, 22, has been dating his girlfriend, Emma Bush, since September 2019 when they were students together at Medina High School in Medina, Ohio.
While Allar went on to Penn State, Bush chose to spend the next four years at Big Ten rival Ohio State. She has been supporting the young quarterback as he transitions to the NFL.
Rodgers, who is set to retire at the end of the season, talked about his rookie quarterbacks and veteran Mason Rudolph on the podcast, mentioning the latter separating himself in the depth chart.
Rudolph started against Green Bay in preseason opener and went 10-for-11 for 93 yards.
“I think he kinda just closed the door on that — who is going to be the backup conversation,” Rodgers said.
During that game, Allar threw two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown himself in the 28-9 win. In their following two losses against the Jets and Bills, Allar threw a combined 20-for-41 for 198 yards.
“Now, obviously Drew and Will played really well, especially in the first game. I was proud of both those guys. I love Will [Howard],” Rodgers said. “He has been in my hip pocket for a year now, learning. It’s fun to see him go out there because he’s basically a rookie. He didn’t play last year in the preseason and performed the way he did.
“Drew has been a sponge as well. Quiet, as most rookies are, but it’s one of my all-time rooms for sure.”
Rodgers, 42, said the driver of the group is Rudolph, who he claims has a “daily checklist of jokes” to go through at the Super Bowl champion’s expense.
“You can kinda guess what they’re going to be,” Rodgers said. “Something about my past. Something about my age and something about some pop culture thing that related to me somehow. Every day it’s one of those three jokes is gonna come in.”
It’s unclear where Allar and Howard, who was drafted in the sixth-round by the Steelers in 2025 out of Ohio State, are on the depth chart behind Rudolph.
The Steelers host the Falcons on Sunday to start their 2026 season.
