British designer Paul Smith: 'Nobody cares how good you used to be in fashion'

CloseSir Paul Smith invited the BBC's Colin Paterson to his office to talk about his life and career.

The celebrated British fashion designer showed off his eclectic collection of gifts sent by admirers, and shared details of his daily routine.

Every morning, after his 05:30 swim, Sir Paul says he writes a thank you postcard to everyone who has included an address.

"Good manners is really important in business, especially for longevity," he said.

Sometimes, he works on the shop floor of his Covent Garden store - much to the surprise of customers.
