ClosePolice faced off with hundreds of protesters in Portsmouth, in the second large-scale anti-migrant protest of the weekend.

Demonstrators blocked roads and tried to prevent around 140 migrants, who had crossed the English Channel in a single dinghy, from leaving the city.

Hampshire Police urged people to avoid the Eastney Landing ferry port area, where the migrants were brought ashore, and said a dispersal order was in place, meaning anyone failing to comply could be arrested.

The government condemned "the intimidating and thuggish behaviour" of the protesters, many of whom were dressed in black and wore masks.
