Add The California Post on Google A second Burning Man attendee was found dead in his camp on Saturday afternoon, just days after a man died at the Nevada festival.
60-year-old Craigh Mann was found dead by his campmates at the annual nine-day long event at Black Rock City in Nevada, according to the festival. A cause of death was not revealed.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the participant’s family, friends, campmates, and all those affected by this loss,” the festival said in a statement.
This comes as a man in his mid-50s also died just a few days prior after suffering a medical emergency and receiving lifesaving measures, according to a notice from the Burning Project.
“It is with heavy hearts that Burning Man Project confirms a Black Rock City participant in his mid-50s experienced a medical emergency, immediately received lifesaving measures, and was transported to the onsite center for emergency care where he was pronounced deceased,” Burning Man also said in the statement.
Before the two deaths, rain forced the closure of festival’s main entry and exit gate in the Black Rock Desert.
Anyone planning to attend the festival was told by organizers on Friday to delay their travel, and for those already at the event to avoid driving their vehicles.
Rooted in self-expression and self-reliance, Burning man has been running for 40 years after starting as a small function in 1986. This year’s event began on August 30 and is set to run through Labor Day Monday.
In 2019, nearly 80,000 people attended Burning Man but attendance has been steadily shrinking since.
Last year, a 37-year-old man named Vadim Kruglov was found dead in “a pool of blood” at the festival, marking the first homicide in the event’s history.
He was discovered fatally stabbed in the neck inside a tent.
