The college football season is underway, and that means teams are dusting off the cobwebs and getting back into the swing of things.
And speaking of the "swing of things," we got some wild swinging courtesy of a tuba player for the Texas Southern Tigers marching band when he got in a tussle with a fan.

The Tigers were on the road in Prairie View, Texas, taking on the Prairie View A&M Panthers, when, at some point, one of Texas Southern’s tuba players (I know it’s a sousaphone; don’t be that guy) found himself on the receiving end of a fan’s chirps.
It's unclear how or why that started. Perhaps the fan was dissing the tubist's spit valve, or maybe he wouldn't stop asking him to throw down the intro to the theme song from "The Ropers."
Whatever the reason, the guy quickly learned that he messed with the wrong tuba wrangler.
That could be one of the greatest displays of multitasking I've ever seen. Made sure to keep the song going even when he had to deal with some "business" on the side.

A pro's pro... aside from the fact that he punched a guy.
Again, it’s unclear how this began, but if the fan kicked things off by chirping tuba guy, that’s mistake No. 1.
Chirping a dude playing a sousaphone is a mistake you'll only ever make once. (iStock)
There are certain musicians I would never mess with. Trombone is one because that slide can be weaponized (why do you think people put boxing gloves on them as a goof?). Drummers are another for obvious reasons.
But the thing about a sousaphone is that, because you wear it, a tubist can react more quickly than, say, an oboist, who would first have to put the instrument somewhere it won’t fall over and snap the reed. Those things are expensive.
Plus, I believe you only need one hand to use the valves, which leaves you one arm for scrappin'.

Fortunately, that guy who was dressed like the elevators in the Tower of Terror at Disney World showed up to break things up before anyone got hurt any worse or the band’s tuba ended up a beat behind.
