A newborn kitten had the longest ride of its life — traveling 76 miles inside the engine of an SUV.
Employees at the Kerrville, Texas, nonprofit Peterson Health were shocked to find the fur baby inside the engine bay of the vehicle, which belonged to their colleague — who had driven dozens of miles east from Rocksprings.
“I heard this poor baby crying this morning when I was leaving work told another staff member and she was amazing she jumped into action right away,” Peterson Health staffer Connie Martinez explained in a Facebook comment.
They then contacted Kerrville Pets Alive, a nonprofit dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia, who responded alongside an animal control officer.

Kerrville Pets Alive, who is now caring for their new four-legged friend, posted an update on the “little hitchhiker’s” condition on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

“It truly took a village to save this tiny life, and we’re incredibly thankful for every person who stopped what they were doing to make sure this kitten got a second chance.”
Once the fur baby was posted on social media, some inquired about adopting it. City of Kerrville, TX/Facebook Commenters gushed at the “precious” and “sweet little” kitten — some even asking if they could adopt it — and expressed their gratitude to the rescuers.
“Each one that worked to save this kitty is a hero,” one said.
“I think that adorable kitty just used 1 of its 9 lives,” another added.
