Add The California Post on Google The football community is still trying to wrap its collective around the now infamous story of Daejon Love scamming 26 women out of $1.3 million while pretending to be a wide receiver on the San Francisco 49ers.
NFL legend and former 49ers icon Terrell Owens has his mind made up about the wild story. And he doesn’t seem to believe Love’s punishment and ensuing infamy fits his crime.
“It’s unfortunate what has happened. I’m just shocked… So many other people have done far worse things than him, and he’s getting the headlines for scamming some women out of $1.3 million,” Owens said, per The Morning Roast.
He later added, “49ers in the news again for all the wrong reasons. And I know this is probably not good to say, but you look at what he’s done, scamming women out of X amount of dollars, Brett Favre scammed a lot of people outta money too, and he’s still walking around. So if that’s the case, Brett Favre should be in jail too,” Owens, who played for the 49ers for eight seasons, added.
“Brett Favre scammed a bunch of kids, and a lot of organizations, charitable organizations, out of lots, and lots, and lots of millions of dollars. So that’s my take on that,” he continued.
Owens is referring to the state of Mississippi giving NFL legendary quarterback Brett Favre $1.1 million in 2017 and 2018 to deliver speeches. Favre didn’t deliver the speeches, but the money was drawn from federal welfare funds.
Favre later lobbied for a multi-million dollar grant for a drug company in which he was the biggest shareholder, and $5 million for a new volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter was on the team.
Mississippi’s state auditor forced Favre to return the money, with interest. He hasn’t been criminally charged and has denied any wrongdoing, but the ongoing civil litigation and legal proceedings are still active.
Given his own indiscretions, Favre would surely prefer to stay well away from this Daejon Love story.
