I can’t keep track of how many times I’ve seen that question raised on my TikTok “For You” page. As a fashion commerce reporter, of course, my explore feed is packed with the latest and greatest trends, and Cider is one name that keeps popping up.
The online fashion retailer — frequently compared to fast fashion leaders Shein and Zara — offers trendy dresses, jeans, tops, shoes and more, primarily catering to Gen Z.
But is Cider legit? Is the brand worth shopping? Instead of staring at the pieces on my screen, I tested Cider’s best-selling items to set the record straight.
This top was the first piece I unboxed, and I was immediately wowed. The lace looks so luxe considering its low price point, and it was super comfortable and easy to slip on. The design even has a built-in bra, so you don’t need to worry about flashing anything underneath. I’ve been seeing the cream version all over social media, but it also comes in purple fig, baby blue, wine and more colors.
The tank paired perfectly with Cider’s Mid Rise Straight Leg Pleated Trouser. As someone who resorts to wearing leggings for just about every occasion, I was so excited to finally find an elevated pair of pants for the office and beyond. The bottoms did run slightly big around the waistline and were a bit long, so consider sizing down.

Fall is all about embracing cozy loungewear. This set went above and beyond my expectations. Somehow, it keeps me warm, even though the fabric is thin and lightweight. The top is reminiscent of a ballet wrap, with light pink piping that reminded me of the pointe shoes I used to wear. I did notice that the pants ran long (or I’m just short at 5′ 2″), so consider sizing down.

I’ll admit it: since I started this job, I’ve snuck in one or two casual jeans days. But dressing up for the office makes me feel confident and empowered, so recently I’ve adopted some new dresses — this being one of them. The gingham pattern gives off major preppy vibes, while the bows on the shoulders add a fun, feminine flair. The fit of the garment was super flattering, although I wish it had a zipper so I didn’t have to ruin my hair by slipping it over my head.
Close out summer by sporting the frock solo, then seamlessly transition into fall by layering a blazer over it.

This plaid, olive green fleece practically screams fall. The buttery-soft fabric felt like a warm hug, while the oversized, boxy fit sent me straight to the couch to cuddle up in a blanket.
I loved how it had a front pocket, which will keep my hands warm during the winter, and a breathable half-zip. There are also drawstrings at the bottom of the pocket to tighten the garment for a customizable fit. Although this style is more boxy than I typically prefer, I can definitely see myself wearing this to an upcoming football game or visit to the pumpkin patch.

You can never have too many fleeces. This one reminded me of a blueberry muffin with its beige and blue polka-dot pattern on the top half of the sweatshirt. Unlike the aforementioned design, this oversized silhouette does not have any pockets. I also wish it had a snap instead of a button closure for easier on-and-off access. But it sure is cozy, and it complements my favorite pair of jeans perfectly for upcoming fall activities.

Is it just me, or does everyone schedule weddings for the fall? I just found the wedding guest dress of my dreams. Admittedly, I typically opt for minis over maxis, but this style was undeniably stunning. The fabric felt thin but comfortable, and the design tightened/tied in the back for a personalized fit. My personal preference is more of a cinched waist, but this billowy skirt was beautiful and reminiscent of some of my favorite Love Shack Fancy gowns.

Cider really has me second-guessing my distaste for maxis. This ethereal gown was lightweight, billowy and dreamy. Bless the adjustable straps, because I was initially worried about what undergarments I’d be able to wear underneath. I can’t wait to drape a cashmere sweater over this look in cooler temps.

I couldn’t stop spinning around in this airy skirt, which effortlessly blew behind me as I walked. I loved the way it moved, and the ruffled hem was so fun. I usually wear mini skirts to show more skin, but I felt so feminine and flirty in this piece. Even better: you can rock the design year-round, whether with a tank top for spring/summer or a sweater for fall/winter.

If you had told me before I tried on this top that polka dots would become a base in my wardrobe, I wouldn’t have believed you. This versatile, printed tank pairs with leather skirts, jeans, shorts and everything in between. The sultry open back showed just the right amount of skin, although I did have to carefully tuck my bra behind the straps so no undergarments were showing.

Considering how affordable their price point is, I was blown away by the Cider pieces I tried. Each skirt, dress and sweatshirt was oozing with style (and viral-worthy potential, hence the brand’s TikTok fame). The fabrics were lightweight, sometimes thin, yet high-quality and comfortable. The tops, trousers and mini dresses were my favorites for office wear, but I am also considering branching outside my comfort zone to sport some maxis for upcoming parties.
The only issues with the pieces (a missing zipper or pocket, for example) are not an indication of the brand’s quality or low price point. In fact, I’ve tried several designer looks with poorly functioning zippers that cost upwards of $1,000.
Cider is legit, and it’s a good idea to browse the site for some Gen Z-friendly looks headed into fall.
