Camp organisers admit serious mismanagement, dissolve executive committee after video of half-naked man carrying woman at party sparked concern
2-MIN READ2-MIN1 ListenWilliam YiuPublished: 3:53pm, 4 Sep 2026City University of Hong Kong has disciplined students over an orientation event with a disco theme in which a half-naked man was seen carrying a woman wearing only a bra and shorts, two days after the institution said it had “zero tolerance” for improper conduct.
The institution said on Friday that all students involved in the orientation camp incident on August 27 had admitted their mistakes, formally apologised to the university and accepted disciplinary action.
“The University’s Student Discipline Panel has completed its investigation into the incident and imposed disciplinary penalties on the organisers and the students involved. In accordance with established procedures, further details will not be disclosed to protect student privacy,” it said in a statement.
It added that the event organiser, the Management Sciences Society under the CityU Students’ Union, had acknowledged serious mismanagement, immediately dissolved its executive committee and apologised to the community.
The university took disciplinary action two days after expressing “grave concern” over the “serious mismanagement and inappropriate behaviour by certain individuals” at the event.
The orientation camp sparked public discussion after a video showing the conduct at a disco-themed party went viral online.
The clip has since been removed from Instagram, where it was first posted, but continues to circulate on other social media platforms.
