Add The New York Post on Google A Mexican indie band’s keyboard player and his family were allegedly murdered inside their apartment by his business partner — as his young son survived the shooting as he hid under the blankets from the carnage.
Camilo Séptimo keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez, 38, was found dead in his master bedroom after being shot in the back during the barbaric attack that unfolded at his apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza on Tuesday, Mexican outlet Telediario reported.
His 35-year-old wife, Ana Paula, who was four months pregnant, and their 3-year-old daughter, Sofia, were found in a nearby bathroom after being shot in the head.
The couple’s nanny — 21-year-old Aleida Romero Victoria — was found dead in a utility room while the family dog was also found “bound,” prosecutors said.
Their son, 6, survived the shooting by hiding under the blankets.
Diego Sebastian “N”, who prosecutors named as an “associate” of the musician, and his accomplice Gerardo “N” have been arrested over the killings.
Cops suspect the family was killed sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, with tMeléndez’s pal discovering their bodies just before midnight.
But at 5 p.m., Meléndez had a phone call with a pal who revealed he would be having a meeting with his associate.
The pair managed rentals on Airbnb but had been having disputes, according to Telediario.
During the call, Meléndez ordered them to call the cops if they didn’t hear from him later that night.
Some 25 minutes after Meléndez’s call began, Diego Sebastian “N” was seen on surveillance video using an elevator in the apartment building.
He was wearing a black jacket, black sunglasses and green baseball cap and carrying a brown backpack.
He “exploited the relationship of trust to enter the residence,” Omar Hamid García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security, said.
It’s not clear when the alleged killer left the apartment complex.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive because it didn’t look like the apartment had been ransacked.
Meléndez founded Camilo Septimo alongside singer Manuel Mendoza and guitarist Erik Vázquez in 2013, and its name is inspired by Camilo Sesto – who was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.
Just two years into its existence, the band was nominated for the new artist award at the 2015 Los Indie-O-Music Awards.
The band’s track “No confíes en mí,” which translates as “Don’t trust me,” was nominated for song of the year.
The band has paid tribute to Meléndez and his family following their murders.
“They will live forever in our hearts,” a statement said.“Honas, we celebrate your music, your life, and your light. Rest in peace.”
