1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenFiona ChowPublished: 5:16pm, 3 Sep 2026Former Hong Kong lawmaker William Wong Kam-fai, who allegedly drove and crashed his vehicle while in an intoxicated state two months ago, will appear in court next week to face four criminal charges, including dangerous driving.
Police on Thursday confirmed that Wong was set to appear in Sha Tin Court next Wednesday morning to face four charges: driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
The 66-year-old politician was arrested in July after crashing his car into two parked vehicles at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) campus. Wong allegedly drove away from the scene and later parked elsewhere, outside a staff residence. A security guard reported the incident to police.
The disgraced lawmaker was released on bail and reported to police in late July.
Following his arrest, Wong apologised for “causing inconvenience” to the Legislative Council and becoming the first lawmaker of the current term to resign. He was also suspended from duty at the university, where he was an associate dean of its engineering faculty.
Wong is also a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country’s top political advisory body.
