Add The California Post on Google This is the heart-stopping moment a cement truck flips over and nearly barrels into an oncoming tour bus before sparking a fast-moving wildfire.
The video shows the vehicle flip on a narrow road before igniting into what has now become the Colorado Fire in Mariposa County, near Yosemite, on Tuesday.
The footage, released by Extranomical Tours late Tuesday, shows the cement truck rounded a corner before it clipped a guardrail and flipped.
It slid down the road at speed before it tapped the tour bus and came to a stop in a cloud of smoke just inches away.
Extranomical Tours said the scary incident happened as one of its buses was driving up a winding part of Highway 140 around 1:30 p.m.
The company said one of its drivers, who had no guests on board, watched in horror as the truck lost control. Liquid from the truck then leaked out and ignited, causing the fire.
Devastation has spread near Yosemite National Park as the Colorado Fire covered about 250 acres. Evacuation orders have been issued for Mariposa zones 546, 548 and 549, while warnings have been issued for Mariposa zones 550 and 551.
An update from Tuesday night said crews would “continue their fire fight throughout the night to control the fire and mitigate further damage.”
Footage showed an aerial firefighting unit dumping water on the fire on Tuesday evening. Highway 140 is closed from Briceburg to the Bug Hostel, while Rancheria Creek Road is also shut down.
The fire is burning near the Merced River and spreading upslope, with roughly 45 structures threatened. Ground crews have struggled to reach the flames because of the steep terrain, though aircraft are still attacking the fire from above.
The cement truck driver’s fate is unknown. The tour bus driver said they rendered aid to the cement truck driver and called 911. The tour bus driver was not injured, though he said he was shaken by the crash.
