Add The California Post on Google Daejon Love, the man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player to swindle money from women, appeared to be furious to be behind bars following his arrest last week, a new booking photo obtained by The California Post shows.
The 35-year-old’s mugshot was snapped shortly after Love was taken into custody in Idaho for allegedly stealing over a million dollars from dozens of victims.
Wearing a jail-issued orange top, Love’s eyebrows were furrowed and his lips seemed pursed.
Law enforcement threw Love behind bars on Aug. 24 after nabbing him at the Boise Airport, and he’s remained there while awaiting transfer to Oregon, where he’ll face two federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.
Federal prosecutors claimed that from February 2022 to the day of his arrest, Love and his 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Chan, built an elaborate scheme to have 26 women send them money.
In a 47-page criminal complaint, the feds alleged Love told women he met on dating apps that he played wide receiver for the 49ers and urged them to give him cash so he could invest it. Chan aided in the ruse by posing as Love’s financial advisor, prosecutors said.
In total, Love and Chan stole $1.3 million from their victims, according to the complaint.
Love is currently being held in custody after federal prosecutors said in a court filing last week he was a “serious risk of flight.” His next court date will be determined once he’s transferred to Oregon, a spokesperson for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon told The Post on Monday.
Chan, meanwhile, is out on release pending trial with an initial appearance in Oregon set for Sept. 10, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon rep added.
Both conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud charges the men are facing carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison each, according to a court filing.
