President Joe Biden used to visit Hunter Biden at his troubled son’s Washington, DC, crack den via an official motorcade with the Secret Service in tow.
Hunter would spy his dad’s vice presidential caravan of official SUVs arriving through the window of his Beltway drug lair and home — where he’d installed a dishonest crack dealer as his BFF and roomie.
“My dad showed up. He literally showed up at the house twice, you know, and just knocked on the door,” Hunter, 56, reveals on a new episode of the acclaimed addiction podcast Dopey.
Hunter was asked by host David Manheim if his famous dad ever met his roommate — known as “Bicycles,” a vagrant Hunter had sought out to sell him crack and teach him how to smoke it, and who then wound up moving in with him. “I think he ran into her,” says Hunter.
Hunter tells Manheim of his father’s visits: “I mean, again and again. He’d call and he’d call, and then… he literally, you know, would drive over with a, you know, with a motorcade. You know what I mean? Like as small as he could possibly make it.”
When Manheim asks what that scene was like, Hunter says: “I’d look out my, you know, window because I’d hear all these cars and you’d see like six SUVs, you know, pull up and my dad get out and walk with one or two [Secret Service] guys because they have to be next to him. And I’d hear a knock on my door, and I’d open it, and, you know… there I would be, and you know [in] all of the obviousness of someone that was, you know, in distress.”
He recalled the then-Veep telling him, “‘Please, like, what are we gonna do tomorrow? What’s the plan?’ And I’d say, I got a plan, and this is what it is.”
Soon after, Hunter fled on a “crack road trip,” as Manheim calls it, in 2018 to Hollywood and infamously checked into the Chateau Marmont.
“I come out to LA and I check into the Chateau Marmont,” Hunter recalled of the celebrity haunt. “[It’s] 100% like right out of a movie. That’s the spot… and I live in one of the bungalows for about close to two months.”
When Manheim mentioned the hotel was where John Belushi overdosed, Hunter says, “Exactly. Yeah, which was always in like the… forefront of my mind. I mean, I think I went more than anything because I was… like, ‘hey, might as well go out with a bang.'”
Now sober, Hunter has been on a whirlwind mea culpa press tour as a refashioned pundit of sorts — chatting with everyone from Tucker Carlson and Bill Maher to Candace Owens, ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon and YouTuber Andrew Callaghan.
In his 2021 book, “Beautiful Things,” Hunter reportedly wrote about picking parmesan cheese out of the rug at the Chateau and smoking it — thinking it was crack.
“I was trying to commit suicide without having the courage to to do it in a very direct route, like I mean, who else does that other than somebody that knows that they want to?” Hunter said on Dopey.
He adds that he still knows the staff at the Chateau, who tried to protect him, years later. “All of it was, you know, like crazy, and even in those moments, it’s just the kindness of certain people. Like I mean, you know, people at… the Chateau at the time. There was a bellman and the guys that parked the cars. Like I still know those guys to this day because they protected me, and they were kind to me.”
He also said in his book that he learned to cook crack while living at the storied hotel, and became “absurdly good at it.”
The fallen first son added on the podcast that as things got darker in LA, he lived off the “kindness” of “drug dealers to prostitutes to you know sex workers… these are the the groups of people that, you know, the only people that you can be around that don’t immediately like say like, ‘you need to either be in prison or in you know or in treatment or [it’s] your fault.’ So that’s who you find, and that’s who I lived with for two years, and it started right at the Chateau. And then it ended up you know more in more motels and really dark places, and dives, and then I would go back… a check would come in from somewhere.”
“How did you scrape the money together for it?” asks Manheim. “You never went broke?”
“I never went broke… Well, I still had the residual. Like for instance, I still was on the board of Burisma,” Hunter brags, ticking off the approximately “14 boards” of “major national and international organizations” he’d been on prior, as well as being “of counsel for [famed law firm] Boies Schiller.”
Being on a board on crack seemed to pose no issue for the political heir.
He adds of Burisma, “I took that when my dad was vice president, and then for three years after I was still on the board, and the requirement of the board would be that I would show up for four meetings a year, even when I was a crack addict and out of my mind. I could show up for four meetings a year.”
The Chateau Marmont did not comment, and Ukrainian energy company Burisma was dissolved in 2023.
