Add The New York Post on Google Venus Williams got ousted from the U.S. Open, losing to fellow American wild card Sofia Kenin 6-2, 7-6 (6) after not getting on Arthur Ashe until midnight.
After blowing a late lead in the second set, Williams has now dropped 14 straight singles matches since July 2025. It may well have been the 46-year-old’s last ever singles match in a Major, and after finishing one of the three latest women’s matches in US Open history she soaked in applause from the crowd.
Venus Williams lost her first round singles match to wild card Sofia Kenin. “I always try to appreciate it, but it is definitely all business and there’s no room for error,” Williams told a small group of reporters outside her locker room. “As much as you get close to knock on the door, it still isn’t over until you really cross that line. So try to soak it in. It is more fun when the ball’s going in.”
