Add The New York Post on Google An elderly man was fatally savaged by a pack of dogs on an Illinois road — and a Google Maps search of the scene provides a harrowing result.
James L. Gibson, 68, was attacked by a pack of dogs on the street in Washington Park on Thursday night, Fox 2 reported.
Gibson suffered bite wounds to his face, torso, arms, and legs after he was attacked by at least five dogs while taking a smoke break from working on a rental property, according to local First Alert 4.
Four dogs are pictured in Google Street View images. During the mauling, the dogs dragged the man across the street and attempted to pull him into a ditch, the report said.
Responding officers encountered the dastardly dogs and shot several when they became aggressive, according to the outlet. The pack then fled to a nearby wooded area.
The victim was reported dead at the scene, Fox 2 reported.
The outlet claimed that Google Street View images of the scene back in April show the dogs running freely in the street.
Five dogs can be seen roaming down roads amidst homes, a small farm shed, and detached tractor-trailer shipping containers, according to Google Maps.
The Post has not been able to independently verify whether the dogs pictured were involved in the attack.
Five dogs are seen running on 49th Street in Washington Park, Illinois, in a Google Maps image. Investigators believed the dogs were strays, but neighbors told Fox 2 that they have frequently escaped a fenced-in yard for roughly two years.
Local resident Mike Tomlin recounted hearing the victim wailing for help as he was attacked.
“I heard the man screaming, and then I could hear dogs,” Tomlin told local First Alert 4, adding, “I mean, he was screaming for his life.”
“I realized he was getting mauled by some dogs,” Tomlin said.
St. Clair County Animal Control told Fox 2 that it has not received calls about the dogs before.
Washington Park Police Department could not immediately be reached for comment.
