Fund will support emergency aid projects for communities hit by the deadly floods, as Chief Executive John Lee pledges swift handling of applications
1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenCannix YauPublished: 3:56pm, 29 Aug 2026Hong Kong’s government has earmarked HK$50 million (US$6.3 million) from the Disaster Relief Fund for those affected by deadly flash floods near Nepal’s border with Tibet’s Gyirong County, which have left hundreds dead and thousands missing.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced the move in a Facebook post on Saturday.
“I express my deep condolences for the victims and extend my heartfelt sympathies to those affected and the families of the victims,” he said.
He said the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee would grant applications swiftly.
On Wednesday, a huge wall of mud and rock collapsed into a river along the Himalayan border between Nepal and China’s Tibet, triggering catastrophic flooding.
