BMW driver smashes, flips NYPD cruiser — and injures 2 cops, video shows

Add The New York Post on Google A BMW driver smashed into an NYPD cruiser causing it to flip and burst into flames in an early Friday Bronx crash that left two cops injured, according to cops and dramatic footage from the scene.

The marked police vehicle was traveling on the Bruckner Expressway near East 144th Street around 1 a.m. when a burgundy BMW rear-ended it, causing it to overturn and catch fire, police said.

Intense video taken by FreedomNewsTV shows heavy fire emanating from the car as FDNY trucks with blaring sirens raced to the scene — and an NYPD helicopter hovered overhead.

The marked police vehicle was hit from behind by a BMW driver on the Bruckner Expressway near East 144th Street around 1 a.m., police said. Two cops riding inside the car managed to escape with only minor injuries to their arms, authorities said. It was not immediately clear where they were headed at the time of the crash.

They were hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The footage shows the BMW stopped just feet away as firefighters hosed down the flaming vehicle.

The blaze was extinguished by around 2:50 a.m., according to the FDNY.
