Add The California Post on Google The injury-riddled 49ers finally got some good news.
Top free-agent acquisition Mike Evans is expected to play Week 1 when the team opens the season in Melbourne, Australia, against the Los Angeles Rams, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Evans has spent most of training camp dealing with injuries, most recently a groin injury that kept him on the sideline during their practice on Tuesday. Fowler reported that the injury is considered “minor.”

AP Photo/Jeff Chiu Evans, 33, is expected to lead the 49ers wide receiver room as they will be without Ricky Pearsall, who is out for the season due to a knee injury, and Brandon Aiyuk, who is on the team’s reserve/did not report list.
The team could also be without veteran tight end George Kittle to start the season, who is returning from a ruptured Achilles injury he suffered during the wild-card win over the Eagles in January.
With the Buccaneers last season, the veteran wide receiver dealt with nagging injuries after suffering a hamstring strain in the early part of the year. He later suffered a broken collarbone and a concussion — resulting in him snapping an 11-year stint of consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving.
Known as one of the best wideouts in the red zone, the 49ers signed him to a three-year, $60 million deal over the offseason, as they hope he will make major contributions for quarterback Brock Purdy.
Aside from Evans, veteran edge rusher Nick Bosa is expected to return to practice next week, as well as cornerback Upton Stout.
