After eight seasons, the Starz historical drama Outlander is ending, and we aren’t ready to say farewell. The series follows World War II nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) as she’s transported from 1945 to 18th century Scotland. There, she falls in love with Scottish Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and travels through time and place, torn between two lives and two loves. Based on the book by author Diana Gabaldon, the critically acclaimed series has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards, and Balfe won a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress in Television in 2016.
Though the book series currently has 10 installments, viewers of the show aren’t quite as fortunate. The final season was announced in 2023 prior to Season 7’s release, and finished production in 2024. Heughan posted a series of photos from the set on his Instagram account, writing, “What a journey. So many memories, incredible people I have been fortunate to work with and now can call friends.”
Season 8 premieres on March 6, 2026, but how many episodes will there be, and when will they be released? Here’s what you can expect from the final installment of the hit series.
