Katy Perry surprised fans during a special screening of her upcoming concert doc, "The Lifetimes Tour." Katy Perry die-hards got the surprise of their “Lifetimes” on Wednesday night at The Grove when the pop superstar dropped into an early fan screening of her upcoming concert film, “Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.”
After the raucous screening — that already featured singalongs, grooving and bouncing beach balls in the crowd — Perry entered and danced along to the final song of the movie, “Firework.”
“The world is hard sometimes, and a chaotic place, and there’s darkness. You go to concerts to let go of all that and to escape,” Perry mused during a subsequent Q&A.
But she also addressed the vitriol she received on social media near the start of the tour. “There were a lot of people betting against me… You want to call me the queen of cringe? I’m gonna suck the f—king juice out of every single one of these fruits on this life. I’m gonna never have any regrets,” Perry said.
“But it wasn’t always peachy keen jelly bean, right?” the “Roar” chanteuse added. “There were days that were hard. It was hard before July 28th, and then it got really cute,” she added — referring to the date she was first spotted out with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, with whom she’s been in a relationship since last year.
Perry also paid tribute to Dolly Parton following the country icon’s death at age 80. “She was such a light. Her light ripples and will forever ripple, and I think will shine even brighter now,” Perry said, expressing admiration for Parton’s philanthropy.
“I got to spend some time with her, and she was always so wickedly funny, and it was amazing. She didn’t seem like she ever had a bad day … she was an earth angel. Her legacy is one to follow and look up to forever.”
“The Lifetimes Tour” movie, which features stage footage and behind the scenes details of Perry’s most recent world tour, debuted at Tribeca earlier this year, with Trafalgar Releasing set to bring the movie to theaters and IMAX across 70 countries starting Sept. 2.
But Perry had another film on her mind first: “We’ve gotta get outta here, ‘The Odyssey’ is playing at 9:15! Actually, I might stay,” she quipped. “I’ve been trying to see it in 70mm, and I still can’t get a ticket!”
