Dolly Parton lovers are demanding Nashville International Airport be renamed after the country music queen following her death — with a year-old petition gaining thousands of signatures in mere hours as the likes of Sheryl Crow threw their weight behind it.
The Change.org petition — “Rename Nashville International Airport to Dolly Parton International Airport” — blasted past 100,000 signatures Wednesday, gaining more than 50,000 in the day since the Tennessee native died at 80 on Tuesday.
“On August 25, the world lost an angel,” an update to the petition read. “It’s difficult to imagine a world without our Dreamer-In-Chief. How are we going to be okay without her magic to keep us safe? How can we shine without her light?”
“Since her passing, tens of thousands of additional supporters have visited and signed this petition,” it added. “The outpouring of support has reinvigorated our mission.”
Parton was born east of Knoxville but became a music superstar in Nashville and lived there for much of her life, with the petition evoking her deep Tennessee roots when it was started in Jan. 2025.
It sat at around 53,000 signatures before her death, garnering only a few thousand new signatures over the year and a half since it was created.
But those signatures doubled in the hours after Parton’s family announced her passing from a brief cancer battle, with dozens of names being added by the second.
And big names were soon giving it big attention — fellow country star Sheryl Crow endorsed the movement while talking about the late idol during an appearance on Katie Couric’s Instagram livestream Tuesday.
“People are talking about trying to get the Nashville airport … changed to the Dolly Parton International Airport,” Crow said. “I’m like, ‘Yes! I think we should.'”
Tennessee state Rep. Todd Warner also said he’d support the measure, vowing in a response on the petition to propose a bill requesting the change.
“I will definitely introduce legislation to rename the BNA airport Dolly Parton International Airport!” Warner said.
Warner previously attempted to rename the airport “Trump International Airport” in Jan. 2025, but that bill flopped in a 5-12 vote.
He also endorsed the Change.org petition to name the airport after Parton when his Trump bill failed — acknowledging that measure “went down in flames” — saying he’d received “numerous” emails requesting the dedication and that he would support a change if the opportunity arose.
And that time could be now, as scores of fans rushed to the petition to voice their support.
“Dolly Parton represents the heart of Tennessee and the heart of its music,” one signer wrote. “Naming Nashville International Airport in her honor would welcome visitors from around the world with a name that immediately says welcome! Know we love ya!”
“One of the sweetest and dearest singers, and not only that, a role model to so many. Undeniably an icon and after all that she has given us, the least we can do is name something in her honor,” another wrote. “Just as she took us on adventures with her songs and supported everyone’s journeys, this Dolly airline will do the same.”
