Matthew Stafford reveals how Sean McVay helped keep him from retiring

Add The California Post on Google Los Angeles Rams star quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford hasn’t been shy about his intention to retire in the relatively near future.

While Stafford has plenty more to offer on the football field, he has been outspoken about not wanting to spend any more time away from his family (which includes his wife, Kelly, and their four daughters) than necessary.

Stafford also revealed that his head coach, Sean McVay, played a role in keeping him from retiring, which he spoke about during an August 18 appearance on the “Youth Inc” podcast.

“I’m home every night for dinner when I’m in town. I’m there as much as I can when I have time off. And and I’m lucky enough to play for a head coach, Sean, that understands that, and gives me the opportunity to be around them as much as I can,” Stafford said.

“And I frankly wouldn’t still be playing this game if that wasn’t the case. And so I appreciate him for that, and my family for that,” he added.

McVay and Stafford are good friends in addition to their professional relationship. Rams fans are hoping that McVay can keep Stafford around for at least a few more seasons, while the team’s Super Bowl window remains wide open.
