Amazon’s Controversial ‘Melania’ Trump Documentary Sets Streaming Premiere Date

Just weeks after premiering in theaters, Melania Trump‘s controversial documentary has set its streaming premiere date.

Melania follows the first lady in the final days leading up to President Trump’s second inauguration, offering an “intimate chronicle” into her life and relationship with the president. The documentary premiered in theaters worldwide Jan. 31, earning $16.6 million in the box office.

But the first lady’s documentary has been mired in controversy since its inception. Jeff Bezos’ Amazon MGM shelled out a whopping $40 million to secure the rights to the film in addition to allegedly spending another $35 million on marketing.

The documentary was also directed by disgraced filmmaker Brett Ratner, best known for directing the Rush Hour films. Ratner was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women in 2017 and was recently spotted in the Epstein files. Melania marks the first film he’s directed since the allegations.

Despite its impressive performance in the box office, the documentary was largely panned by critics. Even Decider’s Jesse Hassenger described the film as “placid and uneventful.”

But fans and skeptics will get to see the documentary for themselves as a streaming premiere date has officially been set. Here’s everything you need to know about where to watch Melania.

Melania will be available to stream on Prime Video beginning Monday, March 9.

If you aren’t a Prime Video subscriber yet, you can get started with a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, including Prime perks like the Prime Video streaming service, free two-day shipping, exclusive deals, and more. After the free trial, Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year.

All 18- to 24-year-olds, regardless of student status, are eligible for a discounted Prime for Young Adults membership as well, with age verification. After a six-month free trial, you’ll pay 50% off the standard Prime monthly price of $14.99/month — just $7.49/month — for up to six years and get all the perks.

Since Amazon MGM owns the rights, the documentary is going straight to the company’s streaming platform.
