Add The New York Post on Google The court case for misogynistic influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate has laid bare the embarrassing truth that their flashy displays of opulence — including a $50-million superyacht and a $14-million fleet of luxury vehicles — were make-believe for social-media clout.
Lawyers for the infamous brothers, who are in federal custody in Miami battling extradition to the UK on rape and sex trafficking charges, said their social media flexing was “theatrical” and a cheap con to burnish their image as ultra-wealthy playboys.
The duo’s videos often featured a $2.1 million Aston Martin and a pair of Bugatti sportscars worth a combined $12 million — but all three cars were “rented” props, their legal team conceded.
The $50-million superyacht they show off also “does not belong to the Tates,” the documents state, explaining they “received payment to promote the ship on social media.”
The shocking disclosures were only made to deny that the brothers are so wealthy they pose a flight risk if freed.
Their legal team conceded in a 28-page petition supporting the Tates’ motion for release that their wildly influential posts shouldn’t be taken seriously because they are “obvious satire, hyperbole and promotion” trying to trick followers for a payday.
“The more hyperbolic and outlandish the post, the more likely it will generate views and likes, which in turn generates income,” the attorneys wrote.
Prosecutors have also cited Andrew’s claim to have up to eight passports, including from the US, UK, Estonia, Nigeria, Poland and the small South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, as evidence he presents a flight risk.
The lawyers also dismissed the video in which Andrew boasted about those multiple passports as “a joke.”
Andrew, 39, is facing dozens of charges in the UK, including multiple counts of rape, human trafficking and assault.
Last month he was hit with a slew of fresh charges for allegedly possessing child porn, by Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service — amounting to 19 charges of “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” the Telegraph reported.
His younger brother, Tristan, 38, faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of sex trafficking.
The pair had been living in Romania since 2016, where they are facing a separate criminal investigation over allegations of human trafficking, rape, forming an organized criminal group, and money laundering.
They were arrested July 18 in Miami and are being held at the Federal Detention Center as they battle extradition.
