After a lengthy workshopping period, “Hadestown,” with music and lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell, opened on Broadway in 2019. The folk musical went on to win Best Musical at the 2019 Tony Awards.
“Hadestown” retells the Orpheus and Eurydice myth alongside another well-known Greek myth: Hades and Persephone. The musical, which is entirely sung-through, uses these myths to explore enduring and contemporary themes such as poverty.
The proshot of “Hadestown” was filmed live on London’s West End. The original Broadway principal cast — Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada-Carney as Eurydice, Amber Gray as Persephone, Patrick Page as Hades and Andre de Shields as Hermes — reprise their roles in the film.

While you don’t have to be an Amazon Prime member to buy “Hadestown,” you will need at least a free Amazon account; that way, you can return to watch “Hadestown” whenever you want to.
If you choose the rental option, you’ll have 30 days to begin watching the movie and 48 hours of access once you’ve pressed play.
While you can stream “Hadestown” at home now, some may prefer a physical alternative to owning movies digitally because there’s always the chance that rights may be revoked and you’ll lose that digital access.
Physical discs are tangible proof that, as long as you have a player to play them, you’ll be able to watch the movies you own.
Regular DVD and Blu-ray copies of “Hadestown” will be available beginning Oct. 20, but you can preorder on Amazon now for release day delivery.
