Nearly half of US kids don’t get enough sleep — this $20 ‘natural’ fix could help

New York Post Composite Sleep Week is just around the corner, and the news is in: kids aren’t getting enough sleep.

At least, according to a recent study from the National Sleep Foundation, which revealed that 44% of U.S. children do not consistently get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. Younger children are especially likely to fall short.

“These findings reveal a gap between the sleep children need and what those closest to them say they actually get,” said Joseph Dzierzewski, SVP of Research and Scientific Affairs at the National Sleep Foundation. “Poor sleep in childhood is linked to impaired learning, emotional dysregulation, and long-term health consequences. Closing this gap starts with education, and it starts at home.”

There are a variety of approaches that parents can consider to help their children sleep better. Creating better bedtime routines, using white-noise machines and selecting the right bedding are just a few ideas. But some have also turned to supplements, such as this $20 melatonin-free sleep aid on Amazon.

More than 5,000 of these Magnesium Glycinate Gummies have been sold in the past month. LilliCare claims the gummies help kids “fall asleep naturally,” and reviewers say they appreciate that the formula is both “non-habit-forming” and still “works like a charm.”

“I was looking for a melatonin-free option that wouldn’t make my kid groggy the next morning, and this combo of magnesium glycinate, calcium, D3, B6, and L-theanine works like a charm. Within a few nights, bedtime went from a drawn-out struggle to a smooth transition,” one parent shared.

Lilicare takes a melatonin-free approach, combining calming herbs and magnesium glycinate instead. Magnesium is an essential mineral in the body that helps regulate processes such as muscle and nerve function, heart rhythm and sleep quality.

While some research suggests magnesium may help improve sleep in adults, studies focused on children are very limited. One small, older study from 1980 found a possible link between higher magnesium levels and increased “quiet sleep” in infants.

Along with magnesium, Lilicare’s formula includes calcium and Vitamin D3, plus chamomile, lemon balm, and lavender, as well as L-theanine. The gummies are sugar-free, lactose-free, and gelatin-free and made in a GMP-certified facility.

As with any supplement, it’s important to consult a physician before use.

Reviewers say the KillSwitch sugar-free cocoa blend isn’t just delicious — it actually works.

These sleep supplements contain melatonin, elderberry, magnesium, L-Theanine, chamomile and lavender — and are a favorite among the Post Wanted team before bed.

I don’t usually love spraying fragrances as I’m unwinding before bed, but this spray changed that for me.
