Add The New York Post on Google The Issue: New York City homeowners’ legal battle against Mayor Mamdani’s new pied-à-terre tax. The hearing concerning the pied-à-terre tax to be paid by homeowners was a farce (“Homeowners ‘under attack,’ ” Aug. 19).
Mayor Mamdani’s administration did not show up and he was conveniently on vacation. This shows these homeowners he doesn’t care about them. He only wants their money.
Letters were sent out and their names were put online for all to see, which one could say is an invasion of privacy. Maybe the federal government can look into investigating what seems like extortion of homeowners.
Even those who do not fit the pied-à-terre qualifications were sent a letter and now must provide information to prove they shouldn’t have to pay extra taxes.
This wasn’t what they had in mind after they worked their rear ends off all those years. They thought the outcome would be quite the opposite. Enter the tax-Jackal from Hell, who sits on his rear end and decides who he’s going to rip off today.
“What’s yours is mine,” he says with a sinister glee. “New rules. You make it, I take it. Thank you.” So much for life in the land of the free.
I am friends with an elderly couple who own and occupy a single-family home in Staten Island, worth approximately $1 million.
Mamdani’s pied-à-terre tax doesn’t apply to them, but they were sent a letter along with possibly thousands of other hardworking, tax-paying middle-class people.
Mayor Mamdani, it is time for your administration to be held accountable for its mailings and unfair taxes, which have burdened innocent people.
Those who are subject to Mamdani’s stupid tax should sue him. These homeowners pay property taxes and put little or no burden on the city’s infrastructure, schools and public services. Aren’t they already paying their fair share?
In order to stop this completely disgusting ripoff, all homeowners need to not pay their property taxes. Let them put a lien on your property. We will pay it later when this ridiculous attack is dismissed in the courts.
If we shut off the money supply for Mamdani’s agenda, it’s guaranteed this nonsense will stop.

As a physician, I recognize that health care for many Americans is already a nightmare; 40% of Americans have medical debt.
In other Western countries with some sort of universal health-care system, people live longer, healthier lives than we do. The idea that it costs more is wrong.
We need some sort of regulation to ensure good health care at a reasonable price. We need Medicare for All.
The conditions of traditional Medicare are rapidly approaching those of the proposed Medicare for All, as supply does not seem to be keeping up with demand.
With practices owned by hospitals and private corporations, there is less incentive to accommodate beneficiaries in a timely fashion. I have to wait eight weeks for a referred MRI appointment and the same eight weeks for a dermatologist. It is starting to feel like the Canadian single-payer system.
