HBO Max has released the first teaser and first-look photos for The Pitt Season 3, giving fans their first look at what’s in store when the Emmy-winning medical drama returns. And yes, Noah Wyle’s Robby is back in the emergency room after taking some time away following the events of Season 2.
The new season is set to arrive in January 2027, though HBO Max has yet to announce a specific premiere date.
So, when does The Pitt Season 3 start? And what can we expect from the new episodes? Here’s everything we know so far.
The Pitt Season 3 will premiere on HBO Max in January 2027.
That’s about as specific as HBO Max is getting for now. The streamer has not announced an exact premiere date, so fans will have to wait a little longer to find out when the new season officially kicks off.
The announcement comes after another big year for the series. Season 2 earned 26 Emmy Award nominations, further cementing The Pitt as one of television’s most acclaimed dramas.
The series once again comes from creator R. Scott Gemmill, with Noah Wyle leading the cast as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.
HBO Max released the first official The Pitt Season 3 teaser on August 21, along with several first-look images from the upcoming season.
The new footage gives fans a glimpse at Robby’s return to the hospital, as well as plenty of the high-pressure situations that have become a hallmark of the series.
Robby’s return is particularly significant after the Season 2 finale, which left him stepping away from the ER. Now, he’s back in the thick of it — and judging from the teaser, the hospital hasn’t exactly gotten any calmer in his absence.

HBO Max hasn’t given away too much about the Season 3 storyline just yet.
The series will continue its focus on the healthcare workers at a modern-day Pittsburgh hospital, following the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals as they deal with the often overwhelming realities of life in an emergency department.
The official logline describes The Pitt as a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America, told through the frontline workers at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Season 3 will also pick up after the events of Season 2, with Robby returning to the ER after his time away.
For now, the teaser suggests that his return won’t exactly mean things are going to get easier.
Wyle will once again lead the series as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.
The new season comes from John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Gemmill created the series and serves as an executive producer alongside John Wells, Wyle, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Eli Attie.
The Pitt Season 3 will stream exclusively on HBO Max when it returns in January 2027.
An exact premiere date and details about the Season 3 episode rollout have not been announced yet. Until then, the new teaser should give fans enough hospital chaos to tide them over.
The Pitt Season 3 premieres in January 2027 on HBO Max.
