Jimmy Kimmel wasted no time in gloating about Kristi Noem‘s firing on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday, calling it “a shocking elimination on the Celebrity President.”
After President Trump announced Noem was fired from the Department of Homeland Security and appointed to a new post in his cabinet, Kimmel compared the shocking news to “watching a TV show” unfold.
“And today we had a red wedding,” he joked, comparing it to the brutal Game of Thrones moment where Robb Stark and his family are betrayed by House Frey.
The audience cheered as Kimmel explained Trump “finally” fired the first member of his cabinet. But the late night host noted during his opening monologue that he hoped this could be the first of many.
“In his first term, Trump fired everybody. This time he went more than a year but maybe the dam has broken,” Kimmel hoped. “There are so many deserving candidates.” He went on to name Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI director Kash Patel as possible options.
“The funniest thing would be if they deport her to El Salvador,” Kimmel joked.
The late night host then shared the news that Trump announced in a social media post Noem will now be the “Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere.”
View this post on Instagram “I think I speak for all of us when I say we wish Kristi luck on her brand new, completely made up job,” Kimmel joked.
Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin will be replacing Noem as the new secretary of homeland security, beginning March 31.
Kimmel giggled as he pointed out Mullin is a former MMA fighter and owned a plumbing business. But he did not seem to have much faith in Trump’s new appointee as he shared a montage of Mullin’s oddest moments, including one incident where he tried to start a fistfight during a senate hearing.
“The homeland is secure,” Kimmel sarcastically said.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
