2-MIN READ2-MIN ListenLucy Quagginin New YorkPublished: 7:18am, 20 Aug 2026A Chinese national was charged in the United States on Wednesday with committing voter fraud during the 2024 presidential election for allegedly impersonating a fellow countryman and later submitting anonymous tips about him to immigration authorities.Yupeng Sun, a Massachusetts resident, was arrested this week for allegedly submitting a fraudulent voter registration and ballot under the name of another Chinese national in the 2024 election that returned US President Donald Trump to the White House.Sun and the other Chinese national’s family, whom he’d lived with, had a history of disputes. “They treat me as not good,” Sun said in a police interview, according to court records.
Three weeks later, on October 31, the defendant allegedly continued to impersonate the individual and cast an early voting ballot for the US presidential election, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said in a statement. Lawful permanent residents in America are not eligible to vote in local, state or federal elections.
