After the Diamondbacks’ three-time All-Star mysteriously missed Monday’s road game in Boston, Marte is heading back to Arizona to undergo an MRI on his knee, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

The Diamondbacks completed a three-game series in Atlanta on Sunday and Marte traveled with the team to Boston for this three-game set.

According to ESPN, Marte was in Boston on Tuesday and was handling a “personal situation.”

He and his family reportedly are “fine,” and he is in communication with his team.

Following the 11-1 loss to the Red Sox, manager Tore Lovullo appeared to be fighting back tears while trying to best explain the situation — one he didn’t have all the answers to.

“I just love for him and care for him, he’ll be OK,” Luvullo said before adding Marte was dealing with a “personal issue” and he had limited contact with him monday.

“I just was doing my best to reach out to him. There was very little coming back,” he said.

They only posted their lineup 15 minutes out from first pitch at Fenway Park, announcing Jose Fernandez was recalled from Triple-A Reno.

It is the first game the 32-year-old no-showed in 12 years as a pro.

It was also the Diamondbacks’ (66-60) worst loss of the second half of the season.

“We deal with a lot as baseball managers and coaches and teachers,” Luvullo said. “Sometimes you get disappointed, sometimes you get let down, but we’re going to figure out how to work through this.

“The players are gritty, they really around one another. I know there was a lot of discussions about it at different points of time in the clubhouse today. There was a lot of curiosity. We care for Ketel and once we knew he was OK, I think everybody relaxed and started to focus on the game.”

Marte’s first stint on the restricted list was in 2025 after his Arizona home was robbed while he was on a trip home in the Dominican Republic. He lost $400,000.

This season, Marte has a .760 OPS with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs for an Arizona team that trails the Padres by one game for the final Wild Card spot in the National League.

The Diamondbacks have two more games in Boston before heading home to host the Reds at Chase Field starting Friday.
