A viral moment came out of the Chicago-Cardinals matchup on Sunday when a Cubs fan was seen seemingly shoving a girl for a home run ball.
During the bottom of the third inning at Wrigley Field, Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a blast to right field and brought James Triantos home with him to shrink St. Louis’ lead to 3-2.
Looking closely at the fan footage, a young woman was bending down in her row to grab the Crow-Armstrong homer. Upon realizing that, a man wearing a Kenny Lofton jersey behind her sees the ball and yanks her back to go after it.
The girl flailed back and seemingly fell to the ground.
The moment quickly went viral on social media and had baseball fans in a complete uproar.
“Cubs fans are either the sweetest people on earth or the absolute worst people to exist. Girlllll I would’ve clocked him after,” one X user wrote.
“I am absolutely appalled by this,” another added.
“I would be escorted out for slapping him, i dont even care if its my kid or not,” a third fan wrote.
“Adults who care this much about sports are peak degenerates, are you suprised,” a fan said.
“Cubs fans gonna Cubs fan…” an X account added.
“These people are rabid animals,” someone else wrote.
It’s unclear if the man ended up grabbing the home run ball.
Despite the offensive spark, the Cubs went on to lose the game 11-4 to the Cardinals in what was the rubber match of the three-game series.
The Cubs remain the NL Wild Card leaders with a 72-53 record.
They lead the Phillies and Padres by five games and are in comfortable position with the latter two in a tight race with the Diamondbacks for the last two spots.
The Cubs host the White Sox for a three-game series starting Monday.
