Add The New York Post on Google WASHINGTON — “Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez whined about the “negativity” she’s faced for publicly sharing her egg-freezing journey — but insisted she has no regrets despite the backlash.
The Bronx and Queens congresswoman, who is rumored to be mulling a bid for higher office in 2028, grumbled that the scrutiny and media frenzy she’s faced comes from a sexist double standard that she’s dealt with since her meteoric rise in politics.
“The answer to that simply is no,” Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said on Instagram Saturday about whether she has regrets. “I was born a woman, period. And I have no control over that, and I wouldn’t want to change that.
“And the way I feel is, any negativity or judgment that I would receive at any point is negativity that I would receive for being a woman, whether I shared this information or not. So I might as well help others,” she said.
The progressive darling announced on Aug. 8 that she was freezing her eggs, and began unleashing a series of social media posts taking the public through the process.
She framed her decision to make the journey public as a way to inspire and inform other women about their options.
The move also fueled rumors that she split from her fiancé Riley Roberts, something she refrained from confirming publicly — but sources told The Post that it happened a while ago.
“Ever since I was 28-years-old when I first won my primary, largely unexpectedly to the national media, I have been subject to personal scrutiny and dissection ever since,” Ocasio-Cortez further griped on Instagram.
“It’s no secret to anyone that it’s been done in a way that is just simply not something my male colleagues have been subject to,” she went on. “I have the privilege of being more resilient to this kind of negativity than someone who hasn’t.”
